Survey and Assessment of Available Measurements on Thermodynamic Properties of the Mixture {Water+Ammonia}

Abstract: Mixtures of water and ammonia play an important role in absorption refrigeration cycles and have received attention as working fluids in modern power generation cycles. For design and simulations during the development of any application, the thermodynamic properties have to be known accurately. Measurements of available thermodynamic data are compiled and summarized. The data sets are compared, using a Helmholtz free energy formulation. Recommendations are given for which data sets are suited to serve as a ba… Show more

“…for ammonia-water mixtures: N = 2, k 11 = k 22 = 0.0, k 12 = k 21 = −0.2589; critical parameters and acentric factors are given in the Table 1 The equation of state was tested for the ammonia-water mixture on the data reported in [21,22,23,24]. Vapour-liquid equilibrium was calculated Heat transfer coefficients of boiling pure ammonia are similar to that of the boiling pure water and are 10-20 times as high as those of the ordinary organic refrigerants.…”

“…PVTX measurements introduced by Munakata's group [12], which are now carried out in the authors' laboratory, are fitted to the present EOS, because the PVTX measurements, which are referred to in a review article by Tillner-Roth and Friend [16], were not available. Munakata's results, which were available for the present study, cover four mole-fractions (i.e., x = 0.8934, 0.8003, 0.6927, and 0.5001) in the temperature range from 310 to 400 K at pressures from bubble point pressure to 17 MPa.…”

“…In this paper, the authors report an equation of state for water + ammonia mixture with the principle of corresponding state and two-fluid model based on the experimental data measured in the laboratory accurately. As the review by Tillner-Roth and Friend [16] shows, there are insufficient amounts of experimental data on a variety of properties for water + ammonia mixture. The comparison with equations of state proposed by Peng and Robinson (PR-EOS), by Platzer and Maurer (PM-EOS), and by Tillner-Roth and Friend (TRF-EOS) is also reported.…”

“…Este último trabajo amplió la experimentación de 2.068 MPa a 3.45 MPa en todo el intervalo de concentración. Lo cual representó, hasta entonces y durante algún tiempo después, la base de consulta para la mayoría de ingenieros e investigadores [5,9] como base de cálculos para el diseño y evaluación de SRA, debido a que cubría todo el intervalo de concentración a presiones y temperaturas adecuadas para estos sistemas.…”
