Surgical ciliated cyst of the maxilla: Report of two cases

Abstract

The number of surgical procedures frequently related to the development of surgical ciliated cyst of maxilla, e.g. midface orthognathic surgeries and maxillary sinus floor augmentation with alveolar bone grafting, has increased. Despite the low prevalence of surgical ciliated cyst of maxilla, surgeons, clinicians and pathologists must be aware of this lesion and include it in the differential diagnosis of maxillary cysts in patients with a previous local surgery. In this paper, we present two cases of surgical ciliated cyst of maxilla, and discuss the clinical, radiological and histopathological findings, as well as the differential diagnosis of this rare lesion.
