The development of the guillotine tonsillectomy in 1827 permitted rapid extraction of the tonsil [4]; however, prior to development of anaesthesia in the 1840s [5], there was not a wide adaptation of this procedure. With the emergence of anaesthesia, surgeons were able to improve the procedure by slowly dissecting tissue in a controlled fashion [5] prompting the development of the dissection tonsillectomy in 1917 [4].…”
