Surfactant‐Mediated Electrochemical Precipitation of ZnO Nanospheres for Adsorption of Eosin Yellow &amp; Rhodamine B Dyes

The development of nanomaterials for dye degradation has garnered significant interest due to their efficiency, environmental benefits, and cost‐effectiveness. In this study, a nanocomposite adsorbent composed of α‐Fe2O3 coupled with carbon derived from eco‐friendly corn husk has been developed. This material effectively captured cationic dyes, Methylene Blue (MB) and Malachite Green (MG), from aqueous solutions, including industrial dye effluent from local industry. The synthesized nanocomposite demonstrated rapid removal of MB and MG from the solution without the need for additional oxidizing or reducing agents. The adsorption conditions by varying parameters such as adsorbent dose, contact time, solution pH, initial dye concentration, and temperature have been optimized. Adsorption isothermal studies indicated that the Langmuir isotherm model best explained the adsorption process. Kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption process follows a pseudo‐first‐order model for MB, while the intraparticle diffusion model is more appropriate for MG. Moreover, the nanocomposite exhibited excellent reusability and regenerability for dye adsorption. Our study showcases the effectiveness of the synthesized nanocomposite adsorbent, comprising α‐Fe2O3 integrated with carbon derived from eco‐friendly corn husk using a simple and sustainable methodology, in efficiently removing cationic dyes from textile wastewater. This approach offers a promising solution for environmental remediation.

Researchers have focused on exploring various types of nanomaterial‐based adsorbents, of which carbon nanotubes (CNT) are the most promising, to offset the harmful effects of waste water‐containing dyes on both human health and aquatic ecosystems. A new, novel, efficient, rapid, and one‐pot synthetic route for synthesizing CNT has been attempted by using sodium perchlorate as a precursor at 300 °C for 3 h. Further, La‐CNT (lanthanum‐doped carbon nanotubes) has been synthesized. These materials were characterized through FTIR, FESEM, XRD, STA, EDS, and UV‐visible techniques, among others. Both materials were used as better suitable and efficient adsorbents to completely remove the toxic dye Rh‐B (Rhodamine B) (≈100% adsorption of dye) from aqueous solutions. The synthesized materials displayed lanthanum‐doped carbon nanotubes and aligned nanotubes, with lanthanum‐doped carbon buds present in La‐CNT. La‐CNT was found to be more thermally stable than CNT. Freundlich and Langmuir's isotherms were validated for the adsorption process, with pseudo‐second‐order kinetics being favored.

Valorizing biodegradable raw materials derived from agri‐waste is ecologically beneficial. Employing such materials to produce adsorbents is a smart platform for applications in wastewater purification. Lignin is one of the most plentiful natural biopolymers in the world. Its macromolecular structure possesses phenolic and carboxyl groups that can capture heavy metals and dyes. Lignin can be chemically and physically modified to generate adsorbent materials with enhanced capacity to remove pollutants from wastewater. In this work, lignin has been used as a natural resource to synthesize metal oxide‐based nanoadsorbents. The synthesized lignin‐based green nanomaterials effectively removed common pollutants from wastewater including dyes, heavy metals, and bacteria. The lignin‐based water purification technique holds immense potential to effectively remove the most common pollutants from wastewater.
