Surface Tension and Adsorption Properties of a Series of Bolaamphiphilic Poly(fluorooxetane)s

Abstract: Studies of surface tension, adsorption parameters, and dynamic surface tension were performed on a series of bolaamphiphilic α,ω-(diammonium disulfato)poly(fluorooxetane)s of several perfluoroalkyl chain lengths. Similar measurements were performed on a small-molecule, anionic fluorosurfactant with a −C8F17 perfluoroalkyl group that is known to be an effective flow and leveling aid in aqueous coatings. Molecular area demands for the poly(fluorooxetane)s were found to be relatively small for a polymeric species… Show more

“…Furthermore, DG ads (= À RTln Table 2 substantiates this claim with A 1 % 50 and 46 Å 2 /molecule for 1 and 2, respectively. These values of A 1 are comparable with fits from previous studies of amphiphilic oligo(fluorooxetanes) [28]. The adsorption of 1 and 2 to an air-water interface was examined by dilational interfacial rheometry.…”

“…These fluorinated oxetane polymers (Table 4) are offered in many forms and functionalities primarily as fluorosurfactants and coatings additives (Kausch et al 2002; Kausch et al 2003a, 2003b; Thomas 2006; Omnova Solutions 2011). …”

“…The surface energy (γ), as well as its polar (γ p ) and dispersive (γ d ) components, were calculated on the basis of Owens-Wendt-Rabel-Kaelble (OWRK) method, [44,45] using three testing liquids, respectively, deionized water, formamide, and diiodomethane. Each final CA was averaged from the results of at least 50 monofilaments.…”
