Surface Structured Polymer Blend Fibers and Their Application in Fiber Reinforced Composite

Abstract: Melt-spun surface structured fiber could be a large-scale versatile platform for materials with advanced surface function and local properties. Fibers with distinct surface and bulk structures are developed by tailoring the viscosity ratio and blend ratio of polymer component using the melt-spinning method. Spherical bulge and fibril groove structured fibers are obtained in different viscosity ratio and blend ratio systems. The interfacial bonding between fiber and matrix is improved due to the mechanical inte… Show more

“…This phenomenon also occurred in other polymers during the melt blending process. [49,50] With the increased of CFs content, dense conductive networks were formed on the surface (see Figure S3). However, the MCMBs (Figure 3F 0 ,F 00 ,I 0 , I 00 ) were almost thoroughly surrounded by the polymer matrix, and not easy to be exposed on the surface of the composites.…”

“…Techniques to fabricate fibrous substrates with secondary topographical features include 3D printing, melt spinning and dry spinning [47][48][49] . Among these, electrospinning is a simple and versatile technique that allows fabrication of synthetic non-woven meshes that resemble the disordered structure of the natural BM 50 .…”
