“…The OS reduction is followed by a decrease of cytotoxicity from (22.4 ± 3.8)% to (7 ± 2.9)%, confirming the role of PTS in spd-SNPs internalization. These experiments suggest that spermidine functionalization selectively acts on particle transport into MeWo cells by a PTS-mediated endocytosis process, resulting fully consistent with data reported by recent studies 70 , 71 .…”

“…Specifically, if PTS selectively takes part to particle uptake, it is expected that, after blocking its function, cellular uptake would quantitatively decrease. Data confirm PTS involvement in particle internalization, mainly for spd-SNPs, indicating an active uptake via spermidine-PTS affinity 70 , 71 .…”

“…49 The DOX-loaded NPs were prepared by the emulsion/solvent evaporation method. 45,50 In a typical procedure, 20 mg of PLGA and 1 mg of DOX were dissolved in 2 mL of 12.5% (v/v) methanol in chloroform solution. The resultant organic solution was emul-sied in 6 mL of aqueous solution containing 1% PVA (w/v), 2.1 mg soybean lecithin and 0.9 mg DSPE-PEG 2000 -COOH to form an oil-in-water emulsion by sonication (120 W) for 2 min on ice bath using probe sonication (Branson, USA).…”

“…The content of DOX was determined by HPLC measurement following a previously reported protocol. 50 The DL and EE of DOX in the NPs were calculated as follows: DL (%) ¼ amount of loaded DOX in the NPs/ weight of NPs  100 EE (%) ¼ amount of loaded DOX in the NPs/ total amount of DOX added  100…”
