Surface selectivity competition of newly synthesized polyarylidene(keto amine) polymers toward different metal ions

Abstract: A new series of polyarylidene(keto amine)s (PAKAs) 3 a 23 e based on thiophene moieties in polymer main chains were synthesized with the solution polycondensation technique. The polymers were synthesized by the reaction of the new monomer 1,1 0 -(1E,1 0 E)-(2-oxocyclohexane-1,3-diylidene)bis(methanylylidene)bis(thiophene-5,2-diyl)bis(2-chloroethanone) (2) with different diamines. The new monomer was first synthesized under the normal conditions of the Friedel-Crafts reaction. The results obtained from both ele… Show more

“…TG thermographs of the synthesized polymers and copolymers are illustrated in (figures S8, S9 and S10) and Table 2 shows the temperatures for 10, 25 and 50% of weight losses. In most cases T 10 (temperatures for 10% weight loss) are found to be the polymers degradation temperatures (PDT); which means that no significant decomposition are examined before such temperatures [24]. For the polyarylidene(azomethine–ether)s 7 a,c the curves show a little weight loss within the range 2–5% (onset at 90°C to 140°C), which is due to loss of imbibed humidity and entrapped solvents.…”

“…These kind of polymers almost have enjoyable properties which can be applied in a variety of industrial fields. Adequate number of arylidene polymers are found in the literature holding conducting ability, liquid crystal properties, inhibitive corrosion protection, thermal stabilities, attractive morphology, biological screening in some cases and other properties [2432]. …”

“…The title premonomer was prepared as reported in the literature [52] and as reported in our previous studies [53,54] as follows. In a 250-mL conical flask, 3 mL of freshly prepared alcoholic solution of potassium hydroxide was added in a dropwise manner to a mixture of cyclohexanone (1.037 mL, 10 mmol) and …”
