Surface modification of polymers with bis(arylcarbene)s from bis(aryldiazomethane)s: preparation, dyeing and characterization

Abstract: Modification of polymer beads by a series of bis(arylcarbene) provides materials with different surface chemical characteristics, and a subsequent dyeing process generates colored polymers with a variety of surface functional groups.

“…This confirmed the successful modification with fluorodiazomethanes 5a-b. The surface loadings of 6a-b could be determined by a combination of surface area measurement by BET analysis and quantitation of nitrogen content by elemental combustion analysis (full details are given in the Supplementary Information (Table 3, SI)), and are very similar to the values that have been reported [26].…”

“…According to the references 28 , 44 , a mixture of manganese dioxide (2.52 g, 28.4 mmol), sodium sulfate (2.17 g, 15.3 mmol), and potassium hydroxide (0.86 g, 15.4 mmol) was added to a solution of 2 (1.72 g, 5.26 mmol) in dichloromethane (80 ml). The mixture was vigorously stirred for 10 h in the dark, and then filtered through a pad of Celite.…”

“…First, several furan‐based monomers were synthesized to prepare polyurethanes, which were subsequently crosslinked with maleimides through the typical DA/rDA reaction. Secondly, perfluoroalkyl diazomethane was synthesized and introduced onto the surface of SiO 2 nanoparticles by carbene insertion approach, which was proved by us to be a short synthetic route with mild reaction conditions, and could be further used to introduce color, fluorescence, biocompatibility, and biocidal properties . Finally, polymer nanocomposite films were prepared by mixing modified SiO 2 nanoparticles with self‐healing polyurethanes, followed by the characterization of their mechanical property and surface performance.…”
