Surface modification of IN713 LC superalloy with Metco 204NS by laser surface alloying

Abstract: Ceramics are one of the best engineering materials for coating gas turbine blades. In this study, the Metco204NS ceramic coating (Zr2O + 8%Y2O3) was applied by the laser surface alloying (LSA) method on IN713 LC nickel-based superalloy. To influence the heat input on the structure of the ceramic coating and its substrate, and as well as the rejuvenated zone (RZ), different variables were used in LSA. The results showed that with an increase in heat input by the laser, the sensitivity to liquation cracks in the… Show more

“…Taheri et al [6] increased the creep resistance of the GTD-111 superalloy through aluminide coating. Khorram and Taheri [7] improved the wear resistance of the superalloy by applying Metco204NS (Zr 2 O + 8% Y 2 O 3 ) ceramic coating on the IN713C superalloy using the laser cladding method. Rezayat et al [8] improved the corrosion behavior of the alloy by applying IN625 metal coating on IN738 using the laser cladding method.…”

“…Because of the intense thermal stress applied in two dimensions, areas with high dilution ratios tend to experience longer cracks and reduced intensity and length of fractures as their dilutions decrease. Laser surface alloying method was used to apply Metco204NS ceramic coating on Inconel713 LC superalloy by Khorram and Taheri [26] to improve the surface properties of this alloy. They have shown that the wear resistance of Inconel 713LC has been significantly enhanced by a uniform and homogenous coating of Metco 204NS.…”
