“…Corona discharge, one kind of room temperature plasma techniques, is extensively employed for the surface treatment of different materials 27–32. In comparison with other plasma techniques, it works well at normal atmospheric pressure and is favorable for continuous operation and the scaled‐up in industry, indicating that it can be an attractive way for the surface modification of solid materials.…”

“…The O 2 -plasma treatment resulted in the oxidation of the carbon atoms to various extents and a decrease in the intrinsic oxidation state ([N–]/[−NH−] ratio) of the aniline polymer. The peaks corresponding to oxidized carbon bonds (CO/C–O) in the C 1s peak have a significant intensity, whereas the intensities corresponding to C–C/C–H bond types decreased. , Therefore, the O 2 -plasma introduces several O-contained functional groups onto the PANI sensing layer, which is demonstrated by ATR-FTIR and XPS spectra, and could cause different affinities between sensing layers and VOCs to generate different sensing signals; viz., more dimensions of sensing characters can be extracted for enhancing the sensor array’s ability of VOC discrimination.…”

“…2. After plasma treatment, the peaks corresponding to oxidized carbon bonds (carboxylic group) appeared below 290 eV in the C 1s peak with a significant intensity, whereas the intensities corresponding to C-C or C-H bond types at < 285 eV decreased [10,22]. No significant changes were observed in the C 1s spectrum of the non-treated sample before and after exposing to urea vapor.…”

“…Up to date, only low pressure plasma treatment in glow discharge has been reported for the modification of the surface characteristics including chemical composition of PANI for improving its sensing properties [8,9]. On the PANI surface, various extend can be achieved predominantly by carbon oxidation after PANI is exposed to various low pressure plasmas.…”
