Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering study of PP/Ag nanocomposite developed to prevent postsurgery infection

Abstract: Wide varieties of antibacterial medical materials coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are developed. However, studies about coating surgical are scare. Stable coated polypropylene (PP) surgical suture with spherical AgNPs (PP/Ag nanocomposite) was prepared using an optimized aqueous dipping method. Homogenous and linear distribution of AgNPs on the PP surface was verified by scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscopy combined to the bright field image. Quantitative analyses of the silver con… Show more

“…A sharp peak at 1000 cm −1 reveals the stretching vibrations of Ag-O from the carbonyl C=O groups in TCA and Cinn (Figure 9a-c) [83]. These peaks appear also in the FT-IR spectra and confirm Pharmaceutics 2020, 12, 361 20 of 36 the composition of our nanocolloids TCA-AgNP, CA-AgNP-PI, and Cinn-AgNP (Figure 7a,b) [78,82]. Figure 7d reveals a corresponding small peak and confirms stretching vibrations of Ag-O from carboxyl-and carbonyl groups in the cinnamon extract Cinn.…”

“…These results indicate adsorption of carbonyl-oxygen groups in TCA-AgNP, TCA-AgNP-PI, Cinn-AgNP, and Cinn-AgNP-PI to the AgNP surface and are presented in a scheme in Figure 10. [78,82]. Figure 7d reveals a corresponding small peak and confirms stretching vibrations of Ag-O from carboxyl-and carbonyl groups in the cinnamon extract Cinn.…”

“…Dhafer et al carried out a SERS study of polyproline/Ag nanocomposite developed to prevent postsurgery infection. Antibacterial performances of polyproline/Ag nanocomposite against gram‐positive and gram‐negative colonies of bacteria were also investigated . Han and co‐workers described a built‐in SERS‐active microneedle for sampling in vivo and SERS detection ex vivo of nitric oxide.…”

“…Antibacterial performances of polyproline/Ag nanocomposite against gram-positive and gram-negative colonies of bacteria were also investigated. [36] Han and co-workers described a built-in SERS-active microneedle for sampling in vivo and SERS detection ex vivo of nitric oxide. They built-in SERS-active microneedle is a versatile platform for taking SERS beyond culture cells and into living animals.…”
