Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering in Hierarchical Structures of Au Formed Using Templates by Site-Controlled Tunnel Etching of Al

Abstract: We describe the fabrication of hierarchical structures of Au composed of micrometer-scale quadrangular prisms and a nanometer-scale fine pillar array. Such structures were prepared using a template formed by the site-controlled tunnel etching of Al and its subsequent anodization and the electrodeposition of Au. The hierarchical structure was applied as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

“…The length of Au nanowires was controlled by changing the deposition time ( Figure A4 d). To reinforce the sample, Ni electrodeposition was carried out at a constant voltage of −1 V [ 46 ]. Au nanowire array was obtained by dissolving the anodic porous alumina template and Al in 10 wt% NaOH solution.…”

“…SERS may be induced by the combined NV and SPR dipole polarization and lightning rod effect of NRs. In addition, a chemical effect may also occur at the surrounding surfaces of NVs, 8,9,[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] further enlarging the effect of SERS on NV_Au/Ag_NR. The formation of DS_Au/Ag_NR and NVAu/Ag_NR was confirmed via FE-SEM and HR-FETEM.…”

“…Both the scattered light and the incident light contribute to the total field enhancement at the interface. 19,20) Moreover, the total field enhancement depends on the geometry and distribution of AuGa 2 on Au NR. Therefore, the intra-AuGa 2 and AuGa 2 on Au NR may strongly enhance the Raman scattering of the CV molecule located in the gaps of AuGa 2 on Au NRs.…”
