Surface engineering of the flexible metallic substrate by SDP‐Gd‐Zr‐O layer for IBAD‐MgO templates

Abstract: Tuning substrate properties is an effective methodology to modulate the texture development of MgO films deposited by ion beam-assisted deposition (IBAD) process for epitaxial oxide films. Herein, a solution deposition planarization (SDP) technique is employed to deposit Gd-Zr-O layer for engineering surface properties of the flexible metal substrate. The correlation between the Gd-Zr-O thin film microstructure and the IBAD-MgO texture is investigated. The coordinated study on atomic force microscopy (AFM) and… Show more

“…If the substrate is not flat, the solution is overcoated on the rough part to make the surface flat, which is called as solution deposition planarization (SDP). [30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37] This technique is used to fabricate superconducting tapes (coated conductors) consisting of long textured YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 films. 38,39) In the coated conductors, the SDP layer is a template for ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) 40) to obtain oriented intermediate layers.…”

“…Compared with inclined substrate deposition and ionbeam-assisted deposition approaches [21][22][23][24], the NiW-RABiTS approach is used in this work, due to its superiority in the preparation of double-sided tape and its simplicity of using low-cost sol-gel process for film deposition [25][26][27][28]. The detailed analyses of gradient La 2−x Gd x Zr 2 O 7 buffer architecture and YBCO films on NiW substrate are presented.…”
