Surface discharge induced interactions of filaments in argon dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure

Abstract: A needle-plate geometry is used to generate two barrier-discharge filaments composed of volume discharge and surface discharge in atmospheric pressure argon, interactions of which are investigated for the first time on the nanosecond timescale using an intensified charge-coupled device. The results indicate that the onset of volume discharges for the two filaments have a periodical discharge sequence, which implies interactions of the two filaments. Moreover, strong interactions of the two filaments are contro… Show more

“…For higher permittivity, charges are accumulated on the target, which induces surface discharges in a streamer regime . These surface discharges present strong interactions between each other on dielectric targets interacting with plasma jets . As a result, there are complex interactions among plasma jet, dielectric, and surface discharges.…”

“…Electrical current is detected by a current coil (Pearson 8600), from which discharge current can be calculated by subtracting displacement current. [ 45,46 ] Applied voltage is detected by a high‐voltage probe (Tektronix P6015A). Waveforms of applied voltage and current are simultaneously recorded by an oscilloscope (Tektronix DPO4104).…”

“…Historically, plasma jet filamentation and self-organization into regular structures were discovered and observed many years ago. [162][163][164] A representative example of the filamented organized structure obtained in high-pressure gas discharge is shown in Fig. 17(a), where the regular structure was obtained in helium discharge at the pressure of 122 hPa.…”
