Surface Desorption Dielectric-Barrier Discharge Ionization Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: A variant of dielectric-barrier discharge named surface desorption dielectric-barrier discharge ionization (SDDBDI) mass spectrometry was developed for high-efficiency ion transmission and high spatial resolution imaging. In SDDBDI, a tungsten nanotip and the inlet of the mass spectrometer are used as electrodes, and a piece of coverslip is used as a sample plate as well as an insulating dielectric barrier, which simplifies the configuration of instrument and thus the operation. Different from volume dielectri… Show more

“…Also, a modified LTP probe with reactants doping into the discharge gas is developed to produce reagent ions that can undergo ion/molecule reactions in the ambient environment with an analyte at condensed phase on a surface . Recently, a novel plasma‐based method named surface desorption dielectric‐barrier discharge ionization (SDDBDI) is developed in our laboratory . Applying a high voltage to a nanotip placed in front of the MS inlet with an insulating dielectric in between induces a plasma plume between the nanotip and the MS inlet.…”

“…A detailed description of SDDBDI is given elsewhere. 25 All of the operation parameters for He-SDDBDI and Ar-SDDBDI were the same except for the discharge gases applied. Briefly, a nanotip was used as the discharge electrode and the MS inlet was the ground electrode (Figure 1a).…”
