“…This created a new hazard, i.e., the uplift of the surface caused mainly by the swelling of clay minerals in the argillaceous rocks in the coal strata (Bekendam and Pöttgens, 1995). Although the order of magnitude of the movements in such uplifts is smaller than the subsidence that occurs during mining, cases have been reported in which uplifts have damaged buildings and the surface infrastructure (Baglikow, 2011;de Vent and Roest, 2013;Caro Cuenca et al, 2013).
