Surface Deformation and Seismicity Induced by Poroelastic Stress at the Raft River Geothermal Field, Idaho, USA

Abstract:  A hydro-mechanical model of effective stress changes from injection and production is calibrated using surface deformation from InSAR  Seismicity, located predominantly in the basement, is primarily induced by poroelastic stress changes from cold water re-injection  Similar stress changes trigger four times more earthquakes per unit volume in the basement than in the sedimentary cover.
