“…Some of the advances are done recently in the EDM process in which assistive technologies and concepts are used. These include EDM with powder and/or surfactant mixed dielectric [13], ultrasonic-assisted machining [14], EDM fast hole drilling [15], magnetic stirring [16] and rotary machining etc. The mixing of powder, surfactant and different type of gasses in the dielectric to enhance properties of dielectric or to deposit a specific required layer on the surface in EDM is called additive mixed electric discharge machining.…”

“…It was seen that 25 g/l concentration of titanium carbide (TaC) powder in dielectric medium of EDM enhanced the surface characteristics and micro-hardness value of 1200 HV was achievable. There was an improvement in the EDM performance on machining of Ti-6Al-4V by dispersing SiC particles (abrasives) in the dielectric medium with magnetic stirring mechanism [5].Other researchers successfully achieved improved hardness of the specimen surface due to the formation of TiC and TiSi 2 . A Cu-Mn tool made with powder metallurgy was used for machining die steel with the EDM process utilizing the Taguchi technique [6].…”

“…In addition, the hardness and wear resistance of the workpiece-electrode material were greatly enhanced. Li et al [167] observed the Ti-6Al-4V EDMed surface behavior by mixing silicon carbide abrasives with dielectric fluid. The results revealed the formation of carbide film, which is characterized by more than twofold rise in hardness and greatly improves wear resistance.…”
