Surface Characteristics of Nanosized Bentonite Suspensions as a Modifying Component of Cement Composites

Abstract: The paper presents the measured data on interfacial tension of bentonite suspensions and strength of a cement stone in water solutions of Frem Giper S-TB superplasticizer. The interfacial tension of water-surfactant-bentonite suspension is experimentally measured at various concentrations of a bentonite solid phase. The dependence of interfacial tension on the concentration of a solid phase is quite complex. In particular, the minimum is observed on interfacial tension isotherms at 3 wt.% of bentonite. Isoplas… Show more

“…With the combined use of bentonite with Odolit-K, the value of normal density differs from the control by 24%, a more intensive reduction of the liquid phase in the cement paste is noted. Obviously, such a distinctive feature manifests itself as a result of a decrease in the surface tension of the dispersion medium in the cement paste with the combined use of a hyper plasticizer and bentonite clay, which was reported in [7]. With the combined use of Odolit-K with bentonite, the limiting decrease in water's surface tension was 48.1 mN / m (34%).…”

“…These disadvantages greatly narrow the area of application of fine-grained concrete. Various methods improve fine-grained concrete quality, where modifiers play the main role [6][7]. Concretes obtained using chemical additives do not always and do not always meet the high requirements of materials approved for use in the construction of modern critical buildings and structures.…”
