Surface activation of thin polyvinyl alcohol films by atmospheric pressure plasma jet: Influence of electron temperature

Prajwal Lamichhane,
Tirtha R. Acharya,
JaeWoo Park
et al.

Abstract: This study investigates the effects of nonthermal plasma characteristics on surface treatments of polyvinyl alcohol with various diagnostics such as Raman spectroscopy, work of adhesion, optical emission spectroscopy, and current–voltage measurements. Our findings demonstrate the importance of controlling the plasma's electron temperature and density to achieve the desired surface treatment outcomes. We show that plasma jets with varying electron temperatures are more appropriate for different surface treatmen… Show more

“…The electron temperature (kT e ), electron density (N e ), and the densities of nitrogen meta-stable states (N A , N B , and N C ) were measured using modi ed Nitrogen collisional radiative model, as extensively elucidated in our previous study [30]. Additionally, the rotational temperature (Tg) and vibrational temperature (Tv) of the plasma were calculated using a Boltzmann plot, speci cally employing the nitrogen second positive system, as previously described in our earlier work [31]. Gas-phase Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used along with OPUS GA software and the automated FTIR gas analyser MATRIX-MG5 to analyse the plasma in realtime.…”
