Surface accumulation in Northern Central Greenland during the last 300 years

Abstract: The internal stratigraphy of snow and ice as imaged by ground-penetrating radar may serve as a source of information on past accumulation. This study presents results from two ground-based radar surveys conducted in Greenland in 2007 and 2015, respectively. The first survey was conducted during the traverse from the ice-core station NGRIP (North Greenland Ice Core Project) to the ice-core station NEEM (North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling). The second survey was carried out during the traverse from NEEM to the … Show more

“…Eisen, 2008). Recent work in this area has been carried out on time-scales ranging from annual to centennial to millennial (Eisen and others, 2008; Medley and others, 2014; Nielsen and others, 2015; Grima and others, 2016; Karlsson and others, 2016; Koenig and others, 2016; Koutnik and others, 2016; MacGregor and others, 2016; Lewis and others, 2017; Cavitte and others, 2018; Karlsson and others, 2020; Montgomery and others, 2020). Efforts to automate layer tracing continue, which include methodologies that use seed points to initiate semi-automatic tracing routines as well as fully automatic schemes.…”

For all of these measurements, the annual mean over 1980-2012 is used as comparison, and as for the ice cores, outputs are interpolated using the four nearest inverse-distance-weighted grid cells to the common 1 km ISMIP6 grid.…”

“…These quantities are integrated over the six basins defined in King et al (2018) and based on basin configurations from Sasgen et al (2012). The correction for glacial isostatic adjustment is based on the model of Khan et al (2016). Finally, in King et al (2018), monthly glacier discharge estimates were combined with RACMO2.3p2-based SMB and compared to the resulting total mass balance estimate from the GRACE product as will be done in this study for each model.…”
