Abstract:There is currently no examination technique that allows direct measurement of supraorbital nerve conduction velocity and amplitude. Therefore, in this study we describe a novel nerve conduction technique that allows measurement of the supraorbital sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) distal to the supraorbital foramen. Supraorbital SNAPs were recorded bilaterally from 17 healthy volunteers using an antidromic technique. The SNAPs were consistently recordable over the site 6 cm lateral to the midline point tha… Show more
“…The onset latency and amplitudes of the SNAPs from the STN and SONs were slightly, but not significantly, different on both the right and left sides and between females and males (Table ). In our study, the SCVs of both the SON‐s and SON‐d were lower than those reported by Therimadasamy et al and Cruccu et al, but similar to the results reported by Jandolo et al…”

“…In previous studies, the SNAPs obtained with a single‐channel method did not clearly reflect the overall features of the nerves of the forehead. The major finding in this study was the use of 3 channels to obtain serial SNAPs of the SONs and STN to evaluate the frontal nerve.…”
SCVs of STN and SONs can be obtained with the 3-channel method and used to evaluate myelinated fibers in patients with HON. Muscle Nerve 57: 973-980, 2018.

“…The normal values are shown in Table . The side‐to‐side difference in amplitude was calculated as a percentage using the following formula: absolute difference in amplitude×100 / maximal amplitude . The mean side‐to‐side difference in amplitude was 16.4 ± 9.8%.…”
“…Normal values for our subjects are shown in Table S1 (refer to Supplementary Material available online). The side‐to‐side difference in amplitude was calculated as a percentage using the following formula: absolute difference in amplitude × 100/maximal amplitude . The mean side‐to‐side difference in amplitude was 12.9 ± 11.0%, and the 97th percentile cutoff value was 34.6%.…”
Supraclavicular SNAPs could be obtained in all normal subjects. Assessment of supraclavicular nerve conduction is very useful in the diagnosis of supraclavicular neuropathy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
