Supramolecular Aggregates as Templates: Ordered Mesoporous Polymers and Carbons

Abstract: Supramolecular aggregate's self-assembling approach has derived diverse mesostructured inorganic solids. Recent progresses involve ordered mesoporous carbonaceous frameworks. This review paper summarizes the synthesis of ordered mesoporous polymers and carbons based on the supramolecular aggregates as templates. Block copolymers are mainly introduced here. Both the aggregates of block copolymers themselves and the assembling with thermosetting resins have the abilities to organize ordered mesostructures. The u… Show more

“…This can be achieved by selecting carbon precursors containing a large number of hydroxyl groups (-OH), 17,18,24 which can strongly interact with the polar parts of structure-directing block-copolymers. Furthermore, precursor aggregates should be small enough to enable assembly around micelles.…”

“…By using calcinations, these templates were removed effectively, but mesoporous would be easy to collapse. In order to synthesizing stable mesoporous materials or hard skeletal scaffolds, Zhao and coworkers used sol-phenolic resin [12][13][14], which could remain the mesopores structures after the polycondensation, as a ideal hard template. Hence mesoporous metal oxides [13], carbon materials [14] and their composites could be synthesized.…”
