Suppressive Effect of Carnosol on Ovalbumin-Induced Allergic Asthma

Abstract: Asthma is a chronic obstructive lung disease characterized by recurrent episodes of bronchoconstriction and wheezing. Conventional asthma treatment involves the suppression of airway inflammation or improving airway flow. Rosmarinus officialis , also known as rosemary, is a Mediterranean plant that is used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Carnosol, a diterpenoid found in rosemary extracts, has been known to exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-oxidant effects. The e… Show more

“…Carnosol (CS) is a natural diterpene compound found in rosemary plants and has several biological effects, including anti-tumor, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties [ 12 , 13 ]. This compound has been shown to exhibit protective effects on various inflammatory diseases, such as experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis [ 14 ], inflammatory bowel disease [ 15 ], spinal cord injury [ 16 ], nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [ 17 ], allergic asthma [ 18 ] and atopic dermatitis [ 19 ]. Furthermore, CS ameliorated ischemia/reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury in rats [ 20 ].…”
