Suppression of the ferromagnetic order in the Heusler alloy Ni50Mn35In15 by hydrostatic pressure

Abstract: We report the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the magnetic and structural properties of the shape-memory Heusler alloy Ni 50 Mn 35 In 15 . Magnetization and x-ray diffraction experiments were performed at hydrostatic pressures up to 5 GPa using diamond anvil cells. Pressure stabilizes the martensitic phase, shifting the martensitic transition to higher temperatures and suppresses the ferromagnetic austenitic phase. Above ∼ 3 GPa, where the martensitic-transition temperature approaches the Curie temperature … Show more

“…22 Several experimental studies on the variation of the Curie temperature under pressure for Ni-Mn based systems have been reported. 4,[23][24][25][26][27] Apart from these, there are very few high pressure studies on the semi-Heusler systems, especially with regards to the changes in the crystal structure or transport properties.…”
