Suppressing gravitino thermal production with a temperature-dependent messenger coupling

Abstract: Abstract:We show that the constraints on GMSB theories from the gravitino cosmology can be significantly relaxed if the messenger-spurion coupling is temperature dependent. We demonstrate this novel mechanism in a scenario in which this coupling depends on the VEV of an extra singlet field S that interacts with the thermalized plasma which can result in a significantly suppressed gravitino production rate. In such a scenario the relic gravitino abundance is determined by the thermal dynamics of the S field and… Show more

“…As expected, see e.g. [24,25,26], we find that most of parameter space of supersymmetric theories yields an excessive dark matter abundance. Our perspective in this work is that the parameter space that yields an excessive dark matter abundance should not be faced as a cosmologically forbidden one but, on the contrary, as a parameter space that favours a different cosmic history for the very early universe.…”

“…There are scenarios in the literature that reconcile gravitino cosmology with high reheating temperatures [53,56,26,54] and generally assume non-minimal features for the hidden sector. For example when the messengers masses lay in the range M mess 10 6 GeV and the goldstino does not reside in a single chiral superfield [56], or when the messenger coupling is controlled by the VEV of another field [26] it is possible that gravitinos have the right abundance. These supersymmetry breaking schemes do not require dilution and predict ∆n s = 0 and ∆r = 0.…”

“…In section 4, we detail a study of DV signatures, starting with recasting the current ATLAS multi-track DV + jets analysis and showing that current searches are not sensitive to our model. By changing the cuts, we suggest ways in which the DV cuts can be loosened, and how cuts on accompanying hard prompt objects can be used to combat background dark matter candidate even for large reheating temperatures that are compatible with thermal leptogenesis [31].…”
