Abstract: The tools provided by genetic engineering can fundamentally alter our technological approaches to medicine, agriculture, and ecology. Through their use, crops have been designed to increase yield while reducing loss from pests and disease (Pellegrino, Bedini, Nuti, & Ercoli, 2018).
