Supporting of mixed ZnS–NiS semiconductors onto clinoptilolite nano-particles to improve its activity in photodegradation of 2-nitrotoluene

Abstract: Migration of photo-generated electrons from the NiS-Cb level to ZnS-Cb prevents e–h recombination, causing a significant increase in photocatalytic activity.

“…The crystallographic phase of the synthesized TiO 2 on the GAC sample was determined using a JNR (MPD300) X-ray diffractometer with a Cu anode at = 0.15060 nm, a voltage of 40 kV, and current intensity of 30 mA. The mean crystallite size was calculated using the Scherrer formula [45,46]:…”

“…Universally speaking, whether the photocatalytic reaction can succeed in proceeding depends on the generated active radicals such as cO 2 À , cOH radicals. [47][48][49] Therefore, we test the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the PTET-T-COOH/g-C 3 N 4 -1% photocatalyst with various scavengers under visible light irradiation which is demonstrated in Fig. 9a.…”

“…In fact, more effective separation of the e -/h + pairs is achieved from the Ti defect states and surface Ti-O-Ti sites (or terminal Ti-OH), which can trap the eand h + , respectively. In general, oxygen vacancies 11 , surface Ti 3+ 12 , Ti interstitial or even ions in the lattice or in the near surface of TiO2 13 are responsible by formation of intra-bandgap energy levels, which are of great importance to retard the rate of e -/h + recombination process and at the same time it can enable the absorption of light by TiO2 not only in the ultraviolet but also in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum [14][15][16] .…”
