Abstract: The objective of this study is to critically assess the possible roles of information and communications technology (ICT) in supporting global health goals. This is done by considering privilege and connectibility. In short, ICT can contribute by providing health information via four different kinds of access, each with its own history and prospective future. All four are analyzed here, in two perspectives: business-as-usual and disruptive. Health data analytics is difficult since the digital representation of… Show more

“…In the event of emergencies or disease outbreaks, digital health can be the answer to achieving long-term viability (Wang & Liu, 2005). This technology is expected to help meet global health targets by including Internet connectivity, patient health and non-health data, and data from the community (Boman & Kruse, 2017). Telemedicine, mobile technology and apps, connected systems, and remote tracking sensors are examples of technologies that help stakeholders to control their wellbeing and service delivery (Widmer et al , 2015;Vijayakumar et al , 2017).…”

“…Several initiatives have focused on developing data resources to address specific health-related issues, such as road traffic injuries [ 12 ], public health monitoring [ 13 , 14 ]; coordination of routine health care [ 15 , 16 ]. Another focus is on increasing the accessible of the public to information and communication technology (ICT), as illustrated in works of Boman; Liaw; Tesfaye [ [17] , [18] , [19] ]. The integration of informatics, remote sensors, and geographic information systems to support environmental monitoring [ [20] , [21] , [22] ], and child movement to school [ 23 ].…”
