“…A virtual team (VT) is an evolutionary form of a network organization, enabled by the advances in information and communication technology(ICT) (Davidow & Malone, 1992); VT have been defined variously by many researchers (Fiol & O'Connor, 2005;Jarvenpaa & Leidner, 1999;Jarvenpaa, Shaw, & Staples, 2004;Lipnack & Stamps, 1997;Lurey & Raisinghani, 2001;Schiller & Mandviwalla, 2007), ranging from geographic and temporal member distribution, adaptability, to the use of a variety of media and member diversity. This concept implies a network structure (Putnik, Gonçalves, Sluga, & Cunha, 2008) that changes along time (Jarvenpaa & Leidner, 1999), i.e., created to answer to a market opportunity and that reconfigures itself to keep a close alignment with the market, dissolving itself at the end of the project (Cunha & Putnik, 2002;Cunha, Putnik, & Gunasekaran, 2003;Hodik, Vokrinek, & Becvac, 2009).However,for several authors (Jarvenpaa et al, 2004;Wilson, Straus, & McEvily, 2006), the reliance of VT on ICT can promote free riding and lack of commitment due to the fact that members do not face one another, as it is through a history of interactions that people come to know and trust one another.…”
