Support‐dependent activity of noble metal substituted oxide catalysts for the water gas shift reaction

Abstract: The water gas shift reaction was carried out over noble metal ion substituted nanocrystalline oxide catalysts with different supports. Spectroscopic studies of the catalysts before and after the reaction showed different surface phenomena occurring over the catalysts. Reaction mechanisms were proposed based upon the surface processes and intermediates formed. The dual site mechanism utilizing the oxide ion vacancies for water dissociation and metal ions for CO adsorption was proposed to describe the kinetics o… Show more

“…This phenomenon is known and reported for the reactions like CO oxidation and also for the dissociation of H 2 O for the case of the water-gas shift reaction. 15,33 This particular step is unique only for the case of reducible oxides in which the splitting of the oxygen takes place on oxygen deficient sites. This step results in the reoxidation of the support by utilization of a part of O 2 from the stream.…”

“…We have previously investigated the watergas shift reaction over Pd and Pt ions, supported over different supports. 15 It was found that both kinetics as well as mechanism of the reaction differed for different supports, and the support played an important role in the activity of the catalyst. Efstathiou and coworkers [16][17][18][19] have also investigated the effect of metal and the support on the kinetics and mechanism of the water-gas shift reaction.…”
