Supply and Demand Assessment of Solar PV as Off-Grid Option in Asia Pacific Region with Remotely Sensed Data

Abstract: The introduction of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in isolated areas which are far from the main grid has provided energy to non-electrified households. Such off-grid technology is very promising in the Asia Pacific region where increase in population and regional development has brought an increase in energy demand. This paper presents a methodology to assess the available supply of energy from solar PV systems and the corresponding demand from non-electrified areas. Non-electrified high population density a… Show more

“…Accuracy assessment: To assess the accuracy of the employed methods, a total of 180 (60 each time series) sampled points were randomly selected and computed the correctness and completeness (Eq. 2) following Principe and Takeuchi (2019). (2) is an actual disturbance); and FP are the false positive (selected disturbance is not an actual disturbance)…”

“…In coastal provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu, the integration of fishery or agriculture to solar PV power is a terrific choice [79,80]. In the remote mountainous areas of Yunnan and Sichuan, self-consumption off-grid solar PV power systems are a perfect alternative [81].…”

“…Principe and Takeuchi [10] collected and analyzed assorted geospatial data sets to evaluate the supply and demand of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the Asia Pacific region. The data used in their study include nighttime satellite images, digital surface models, land-cover data, road network data, and many other socio-economic data.…”
