Supersymmetry in 5D gravity

Abstract: We study a 5d gravity theory with a warped metric and show that two N = 2 supersymmetric quantummechanical systems are hidden in the 4d spectrum. The supersymmetry can be regarded as a remnant of higherdimensional general coordinate invariance and turns out to become a powerful tool to determine the physical 4d spectrum and the allowed boundary conditions. Possible extensions of the N = 2 supersymmetry are briefly discussed.

“…The mode functions Φ (n) α,+ (y) (or g (n) α (y)) and Φ (n) α,− (y) (or f (n) α (y)) are (at least) doubly degenerate in the spectrum except for zero energy states (see Figure 1), and they form N = 2 supermultiplets. Thus, the N = 2 supersymmetry turns out to be hidden in the 4D spectrum of the higher dimensional Dirac theory, as well as higher dimensional gauge/gravity theories [16][17][18][19].…”

“…As in the previous analysis [46], the signs of the fermion bulk masses are assigned as M Q > 0, M U < 0, M D > 0 to make much larger overlapping in the up-quark sector than in down ones for 7 In Refs. [51][52][53], the 5D gauge invariance has been discussed from a quantum mechanical supersymmetry point of view. 8 Some related works are found in Refs.…”

“…Supersymmetric quantum mechanics in Dirac and gauge theories related has been studied in recent works. For the connection of extra dimensional gauge models and N = 2 supersymmetric quantum mechanics algebra (N = 2 susy QM thereafter) see [12,13]. Also localized fermions around superconducting cosmic strings are connected with N = 2 susy QM algebra, see [14].…”
