Superradiant and stimulated-superradiant emission in prebunched electron-beam radiators. II. Radiation enhancement schemes

Abstract: Further enhancement of the intense coherent superradiant and stimulated-superradiant emission from prebunched electron beams is possible, in schemes of prebunched beam radiation devices, and particularly free electron laser (FEL). The enhancement of coherent power and spectral power by use of a waveguide, particularly at the zero-slippage condition, is evaluated. A special scheme of a stimulated-superradiance FEL oscillator is analyzed and is shown to feature ultimate radiative energy conversion efficiency (ne… Show more

“…Kumar and Kim have performed a detailed 2D analysis of coherent SP radiation at the THz frequencies, in which the SP free-electron laser is treated as a backward wave oscillator (BWO) [18]. Some thorough discussions of coherent and superradiant radiation emitted by prebunched beams have been given by Gover [19,20].…”

“…This laboratory frame field is introduced in Eqs. (9), (10) in order to evaluate a distortion of the beam trajectory due to space-charge effects. The approach is similar to a relativistic "point-to-point" model of SC fields realized in commercial General Particle Tracer code [14].…”

“…The interaction between the electromagnetic field and the gain medium is fully described by a set of coupled equations, expressing the evolution of mode amplitudes along the interaction region. The model was realized in a numerical code WB3D and has been successfully applied to the analysis of various effects in FEL devices [6][7][8][9][10][11][12].…”

“…5 Further enhancement of the emission rate can be considered through stimulated superradiance with which the emission rate grows in proportion to the square root of the background radiation power. 9,10 The stimulating field can either be injected from outside (amplifier configuration) 11,12 or be generated with periodically repeated bunches (oscillator configuration). 13 For the latter configuration, we have to assume an electron source that produces a train of periodic microbunches, such as those generated from the RF guns operated at gigahertz frequencies.…”
