Superior Competitive Adsorption Capacity of Natural Bentonite in the Efficient Removal of Basic Dyes from Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: In this study, natural bentonite has been used as a highly efficient, and low‐cost sorbent for the adsorptive removal of methylene blue (MB), crystal violet (CV), and fuchsine basic (FB) dyes from aqueous solutions. X‐ray fluorescence (XRF), Thermogravimetry and differential thermal analyses (TG‐DTA), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses for bentonite clay were performed. Results revealed that bentonite is an excellent sorbent for the elimi… Show more

“…The high values of K F (3.41 to 16.98) and 1/n (0.653 to 1.003) found in this study indicate that heterogeneous nature and positive cooperativity binding facilitated CV adsorption by nickel zinc ferrite. Furthermore, high K F values indicate a powerful contact between the ferrite surface and dye molecules [59] . Additionally, the K F values are in the sequence K F (at x=0.1)>K F (at x=0.9), which is the same as the order of Q m variation from the Langmuir isotherm.…”

“…The determined Tempkin parameter values are summarized in Table 5. The existence of chemisorption rather than physisorption is revealed by these parameters, as evidenced by the values of B T [59] . Again, the K T values reveal that samples rich with zinc ferrite surfaces have a larger tendency for remediating the CV dye than samples rich with nickel ferrite surfaces.…”
