Superhydrophobic Composite Coating with Excellent Mechanical Durability

Abstract: Superhydrophobic surfaces have great potential for self-cleaning, anti-icing, and drag-reducing because of their water repellency property. However, their super-hydrophobicity is destroyed under mechanical abrasion due to the vulnerability of the delicate surface textures. Here, we demonstrate a strategy to create a robust superhydrophobic surface using MXene and fluoridated silica as functional fillers in epoxy resin. The fluoridated silica produces low surface energy, MXene serves as a wear-resistant phase a… Show more

“…Each line touched the material. A 3M 610 adhesive tape with an adhesion force of 350-400 g/cm 2 was used for three grid pull tests, and we observed film detachment at the edges and intersections of the scored lines [46,47].…”

“…According to our previous work, the mass fraction of nanofillers in epoxy resin was determined to be 60% . The mass ratio between the fluoridated SiO 2 and Fc-MOF was adjusted (3:0, 3:1, 3:2, 3:3, 2:3, 1:3, and 0:3) for wettability testing (Figure S1).…”

“…Fluorinated SiO 2 NPs were prepared according to our previous report. 33 Typically, 1 mL of PFDTES, 90 mL of ethanol, 10 mL of DI water, and 4 mL of NH 3 .H 2 O were stirred at 25 °C for 2 h, followed by 2 g of SiO 2 NPs added to react at 40 °C for 24 h. Afterward, the reaction mixture was washed three times with ethanol by centrifugation and dried overnight at 60 °C. Also, fluorinated Fc-MOFs were prepared by the same method.…”

“…However, recent studies have pointed out that superhydrophobic coatings have drawbacks, such as poor mechanical stability. 17,18 The superhydrophobicity is destroyed under mechanical abrasion due to the vulnerability of the delicate surface textures. Although superhydrophobic coatings have shown potential desirable anti-icing properties, Li et al 19 prepared a nonfluorinated superhydrophobic coating using polyurethane (PU) and hexadecyl polysiloxane-modified SiO 2 (SiO 2 @HD-POS) and other raw materials, whose SA increased to a Key Laboratory of Inorganic Nonmetallic Crystalline and Energy Conversion Materials, College of Materials and Chemical Engineering, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, Hubei 443002, P.
