Superhydrophobic Aligned Polystyrene Nanotube Films with High Adhesive Force

Abstract: room temperature. The products were examined using an X-ray diffractometer (RINT 2200HF) and a scanning electron microscope (JSM -6700F). The products were dispersed onto copper grids with an amorphous carbon film and further characterized structurally and chemically by using a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (JEM-3000F) fitted with an X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer. The photoluminescence spectra were recorded at room temperature using a He±Cd laser as an excitation source at a wavelengt… Show more

“…28 We also noticed that the pulvinus had a sucker-like structure with a protuberant closed circle in the middle (Figure 2f 1 ). This structure favors pinning of the liquid because of the close contact with the water 29 in conjunction with the radially distributed rough-textured geometry on its surrounding areas (Figures 2f 2 and f 3 ).…”

“…As-prepared films are not only superhydrophobic but also highly adhesive. [89] Another example are vertically aligned (VA) single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) arrays produced via a combination of PECVD and fast heating process which have the highest macroscopic adhesive force among all synthetic and natural gecko feet. Furthermore, dry adhesives based on these vertically aligned SWNT exhibit reversible semiconducting behavior under load as well as excellent thermal resistance due to the unique thermal and electric properties intrinsic to SWNT.…”
