Superficial CD34-Positive Fibroblastic Tumor

Abstract: Superficial CD34-positive fibroblastic tumor (SCPFT) is a recently described entity that, despite significant pleomorphism, carries a good prognosis. We briefly describe this tumor and its principal differential diagnoses. Recognition of SCPFTs, including the clinical context in which they arise, is important to avoid confusion with other pleomorphic soft tissue tumors, particularly neoplasms in the group of pleomorphic sarcomas, which are typically aggressive tumors that could lead to unnecessary ove… Show more

“…Grossly, these tumours are relatively circumscribed but infiltrate into the adjacent tissue. [3] This slow growing tumour occurs in middle aged adults with a mean age range of 20 to 76 years and has a slight male preponderance. [2][3][4] The most common sites of predilection in descending order are: lower limbs, shoulders, buttock and upper limbs.…”

This mesenchymal tumour of borderline malignant potential has some distinct morphological features which made it to be classified as a separate entity.…”

“…This recently defined tumor type was first described by Kao et al in 2018 [166]. Few reports have followed since then [167][168][169][170][171].…”

“…Arrangement around blood vessels as seen in myopericytomas is sometimes observed. Myxoid and collagenous areas with the latter reminiscent of collagen rosettes are rarely reported [167][168][169][170][171]. Immunohistochemically, the most reliable marker by now seems to be ERG demonstrating an homogeneous nuclear expression.…”
