Superdeformed Band in Asymmetric N $>$ Z Nucleus, $^{40}$Ar and High-Spin States in A $=$ 30 $\sim$ 40 Nuclei

Abstract: A rotational band with five cascade γ-ray transitions was newly found in 40 Ar. The deduced transition quadrupole moment of 1.45 +0.49 −0.31 eb has demonstrated this band as having a superdeformed shape of β 2 ∼ 0.5. The structure of the band was discussed in the framework of cranked Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations and the assignment of multiparticlemultihole configuration has been made. §1.
