Supercritical Methane Adsorption in Shale: Isothermal Adsorption and Desorption of Eagle Ford Shale Gas

Abstract: Gas adsorption-desorption highly affect gas storage and production behaviour in shale nanopores. The study of methane adsorption isotherm in shale has been extensively conducted experimentally. The shale compositions and reservoir conditions prominently control the adsorption capacity of methane. However, to date, there is a lack of discussion on the effect of heterogeneous TOC towards the adsorption isotherm and comparison with adsorption isotherm modelling. This study used the gravimetric method for supercri… Show more

“…40 The adsorption isotherm model generated based on the gas adsorption on the solid surface based on several theoretical assumptions has been used to depict the adsorption behaviour of methane with shale. 23,[41][42][43][44] The adsorption isotherm model is an essential part of the studies and is used in shale gas reservoir simulators to forecast reservoir production. 42,45 Adsorption isotherm models can mainly be divided into monolayer adsorption models (Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models), multilayer adsorption models (Toth isotherm model), and pore-ling models (Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm model) 46 The description of each model is further explained below.…”
