Super-resolution in incoherent optical imaging using synthetic aperture with Fresnel elements

Abstract: We present a new lensless incoherent holographic system operating in a synthetic aperture mode. Spatial resolution exceeding the Rayleigh limit of the system is obtained by tiling digitally several Fresnel holographic elements into a complete Fresnel hologram of the observed object. Each element is acquired by the limited-aperture system from different point of view. This method is demonstrated experimentally by combining three holographic elements recorded with white light illumination which is emitted from a… Show more

“…62 This method is based on FINCH in the sense that each element in the SA mosaic is actually acquired using a modified FINCH system. In general, the SA in SAFE is formed by combining several Fresnel subholograms recorded from various viewpoints by a limited aperture FINCH recorder.…”

“…Since its first demonstration, SAFE has evolved in parallel to FINCH, such that every improvement in FINCH has been later adapted to SAFE. [62][63][64] The latest and best performing SAFE configuration, dubbed dual lens SAFE, 64 is reviewed in Sec. 3.1.…”

“…In a recent study, a new type of incoherent holographic FINCH-based system, dubbed SA with Fresnel element (SAFE) [16], has been proposed. This holographic system creates an SA by combining several Fresnel sub-holograms captured from various viewpoints by a system with a limited physical aperture.…”

“…The SA is implemented by shifting the BPF-polarized-SLMcamera set along several viewpoints (see Fig. 1 in Ref [16]). At each viewpoint, a different mask is displayed on the SLM with respect to the system's position and a single element of the Fresnel hologram is recorded.…”
