Super determinant1A, a RAWULdomain-containing protein, modulates axillary meristem formation and compound leaf development in tomato

Abstract: Shoot branching and complex leaf development rely on the establishment of boundaries that precedes the formation of axillary meristems and leaflets. The tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) super determinant mutant is compromised in both processes, due to a mutation in Sde1A. Sde1A encodes a protein with a RAWUL domain, which is also present in Polycomb Group Repressive Complex 1 (PRC1) RING finger proteins and WD Repeat Domain 48 proteins. Genetic analysis revealed that Sde1A and Bmi1A cooperate, whereas Bmi1C antag… Show more

“…Similarly, they also establish the repressive environment around WUS gene locus (Figure 1; Wang et al, 2017). By contrast, in tomato, PRC2 component Super Determinant 1A (Sde1A) and PRC1 component B cellspecific Moloney murine leukemia virus integration site 1 (Bmi1) collaborate synergistically in promoting but not suppressing AM formation, through impacting associated histone marks (Lopez et al, 2021). This finding also implies a complicated constitution and diverged roles of PRC1 and PRC2 complexes.…”

“…A BLASTP search identified 138 homologs. Whereas Marchantia polymorpha and Selaginella moellendorffii contain a single gene, Physcomitrella patens , Amborella trichopoda , Pinus pinaster , and most dicots contain two genes, and monocots usually contain three ( López et al., 2021 ). The tomato, rice, and maize homologs are involved in shoot apical meristem and axillary meristem development ( Tabuchi et al., 2011 ; Yao et al., 2019 ; López et al., 2021 ).…”

One of the tomato homologs, Super determinant1A (Sde1A), and the Marchatia polymorpha homolog, MpBMI1-L, have been shown to genetically interact with the BMI1 proteins ( Liu et al., 2021 ; López et al., 2021 ).…”
