Suomen metsät 2004–2008 ja niiden kehitys 1921–2008

Abstract: Tässä julkaisusssa esitetään valtakunnan metsien 10. inventointiin (VMI10) perustuvat tiedot Suomen metsävaroista ja metsien tilasta. Maastotiedot on kerätty vuosina 1996-2004. Suomen me… Show more

“…Forest inventory is based on measurements taken from a statistically representative sample of all trees within a forest region -for details of this approach, see Tomppo et al (2011) and LaBau et al (2007). Historical inventory data are available at 5-10 year intervals from Finland (Kuusela, 1972(Kuusela, , 1978Kuusela and Salminen, 1991;Tomppo et al, 2011;Ylitalo, 2013;Korhonen et al, 2013) and decadal intervals from the United States (Smith et al, 2009). We collected data from these published inventories specifically by five regions ( Fig.…”

“…Markgren 1970;Lavsund 1987;Bergqvist et al 2014). For example, National Forest Inventory (NFI) shows moose damage in almost one million hectares in Finland (Korhonen et al 2013). In the most problematic areas, repeated browsing is able to totally prevent the regeneration of forests and in less damaged areas, moose browsing may impair the growth of trees and reduce the quality of sawn timber (Lavsund 1987;Heikkilä and Härkönen 1993;Bergqvist et al 2003).…”

“…Trees to be measured on sample plots were selected using restricted angle count sampling, and every seventh tree was measured as a sample tree, as in the NFI9. The stand-level measurements were similar to those in the NFI9, but the growing stock was described in more detail, that is, by tree layers and tree species (Korhonen et al 2013).…”

“…The sampling design was similar to that in the NFI9, but the locations of temporary clusters were shifted 1 km north and west from the previous locations (Korhonen et al 2013). Further, the number of sample plots on a cluster was reduced to meet the intensified rotation of the NFIs, which was set to five years.…”
