“…Health care providers should be aware of the importance of prevention and education for sun protection as chronic skin damage can be found since 12 months of age. 31,32 In our study, inflammatory diseases were also common, the most prevalent being AD (2.5% overall). This prevalence is similar to that found in adults living in Cameroon 33 or in the mainland French population (4%) but much lower than reported among Amerindians of French Guiana 9 despite a similar lifestyle.…”

“…In this study, the mean age of the participants was 27.5.This trend agrees with the mean age (24.1 ± 11.3years) found in Nigeria by Madumbuko 9 ; by Inena in Democratic Republic of Congo 12 and the mean age (32.2 years) found by Samson in Tanzania 11 . This may be explained by the fact that because of sun exposure, the United Nations estimates that 98% of people with albinism in Africa do not live past the age of 40 years, with skin cancer accounting for at least 80% of fatalities 13 .They were more males than females (male to female ratio was 1.51:1).This was not the same with the nding in Nigeria and Tanzania 9,11 where a female preponderance was observed. More participants were from rural areas.…”

“…This is shown by comparing the DLQIs found in people living with albinism in Nigeria and Tanzania. Madumbuko explained that the improved quality of life observed in Tanzania is the result of several long-lasting albinism-related care programs established in that country 9 .…”
