“…Importantly, four patients (19%) in the laser‐treated group had postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), with FPTs IV and V (Figure 7), whereas the univariate correlation analysis revealed significant factors for the development of PIH after laser treatment, 13 including FPTs IV‐V, duration of melasma, previous melasma treatment with laser or light therapy, and knowledge of sunscreen usage. Moreover, the mean duration of melasma in the PIH group was 12 ± 6.27 years, compared to the non‐PIH group of 4.71 ± 4.47 years, with statistically significant difference ( P = .013).…”

“…16 Thus, the maintenance therapy and strict sun protection behaviors 13 should be strongly recommended. 28 The most serious adverse effect of 585-nm QSNYL from this study was PIH, 13,16 which occurred in almost 20%of patients with more competitive melanin chromophore density in darker FPT. 9,17,29 This corresponded to the study of 595-nm wavelength pulsed dye laser and triple combination cream in melasma treatment, 30 which yielded a decrease in MASI score in patients with skin types II-III on the dual treatment side.…”
