But inconsistent results were reported in studies that tried to correlate genotype with disease severity (15). Furthermore, higher viral loads have been associated with severe disease (16)(17)(18)(19); however, viral loads are higher in outpatients than in age-matched inpatients (20), indicating the amount of infectious virus is not the sole viral factor that impacts disease severity and implying a role for other viral factors in RSV disease outcome.…”
