Abstract:Four ruthenium water oxidation catalysts that bear carboxylate and sulfonate groups in the active site have been synthesized and analyzed for their catalytic activity. The sulfonate‐containing catalysts show higher electrochemical activity in pH 7 phosphate buffer with 3‐5 times larger catalytic current, improved durability with sacrificial oxidant, and increased solubility compared to similar species containing two carboxylate groups. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the sulfonate group pro… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
