“…The results of [Fe 2 (-O)(L 3,5,7 ) 2 Cl 2 ]-and [Fe 2 (-OMe) 2 (H 2 L 4,6,8 )Cl 4 ]-catalyzed thioanisole and benzyl alcohol oxidation showed that the best yields were obtained with complex 4 and 8, which are capable of catalyzing both oxygen-atom transfer and hydrogen-atom abstraction. Furthermore, detailed mechanistic experiments indicated the formation of an electrophilic metal-based oxidant in both systems, similarly that was found earlier for the [Fe 2 (-O)L 4 (H 2 O) 2 ] 4+ /H 2 O 2 (L = (-)-4,5-pinenebipyridine) system (Scheme 4) [48,49]. In case of 4, the oxidative reactivity may be explained by the formation of Fe III (-O)(-1,2-O 2 )Fe III , which is responsible for the formation of the key oxidant.…”
