“…Not all depressed and suicidal schizophrenic patients commit suicide. There is little reliable knowledge of the clinical characteristics of those schizophrenic patients who are likely to commit suicide (Wilkinson, 1982), and it is common when treating them to miss the prediction of suicide (Anderson, 1973). A positive history of prior suicide attempts was found to be a powerful indicator of suicide in schizophrenic patients (Salama & Sizemore, 1982) and even in the general population (Salama, 1985); such a history was found for the two cases in the present study who committed suicide within a year of their discharge.…”
